Why Do You Always Have Music, Podcasts, or TV Playing?

Quiet time is uncomfortable, and most of us fill it with music, podcasts, or TV just to avoid it. James admits he does the same thing. But all that background noise can keep you from sitting with thoughts and feelings you really need to face. What are you avoiding when you reach for the remote or the headphones?

Speaker A:

This is the Daily note from jamesabrown.net here's what I'm thinking about this weekend.

Speaker A:

We fill every moment with noise.

Speaker A:

Music, podcasts, tv.

Speaker A:

There's always something on in the background.

Speaker A:

I'm so guilty of this.

Speaker A:

Why, if we're honest, and I hope we can be here, I think it's because quiet time can be scary, because it's full of thoughts and feelings and questions that are harder to say aloud.

Speaker A:

We're drowning out what's really happening around us as we distract ourselves from our scars.

Speaker A:

But when we never let it get quiet, we never get to hear what's happening under all that noise.

Speaker A:

So here's my question.

Speaker A:

What are you avoiding?

Speaker A:

Take it any way you want.

Speaker A:

Let me know what you come up with on jamesabrown.net on that note, I'm James A.

Speaker A:

Brown, and as always, be well.
