Why Did Truman Fire General MacArthur During the Korean War?
In 1951, President Harry Truman fired General Douglas MacArthur from his command during the Korean War, one of the most controversial moments in American military history. MacArthur had fought in both World War I and World War II before that clash with Truman ended his career. He closed out his service with a farewell address to Congress, leaving with the words of a soldier's song that moved many who heard it.
